Who We Are at
New Horizon Baptist Church

A Place Where All Are Welcome!

New Horizon is a small congregation of normal everyday folks, loving and serving Jesus and the community of Lubbock, Texas. We may not be largest church in town but we passionately love our Lord and others.  As pastor it is my heart to do all I can to reveal the love of God to anyone He brings our way. Each week I endeavor to preach Bible based, expository messages with relevant, real-world application. It is a great honor for me to be trusted to pray for people when trials come and rejoice with them when blessings abound. It is a special honor to be allowed to share and explain the Gospel with those who are searching. I would be thrilled to pray with you, engage with you about your faith, or just discuss the church. I am just an email or call away!

What We Believe

At New Horizon Baptist Church, we believe that the Bible is the inspired, infallible, Word of God and is the undisputed basis of our faith and practice. Through it God reveals His will for our lives. With that in mind we hold to the following affirmations:

God

We affirm our belief in the one-eternal God, Creator and Lord of the world, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, who governs all things according to the purpose of his will. He has been calling out from the world a people for himself, and sending his people back into the world to be his servants and his witnesses, for the extension of his kingdom, the building up of Christ's body, and the glory of his name. We confess with shame that we have often denied our calling and failed in our mission, by becoming conformed to the world or by withdrawing from it. Yet we rejoice that even when borne by earthen vessels the gospel is still a precious treasure. To the task of making that treasure known in the power of the Holy Spirit we desire to dedicate ourselves anew.

The Bible

We believe that God has graciously revealed Himself through the inspired words of the Bible, the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments. We hold that these writings are inerrant in the original manuscripts, serve as the final authority in all matters of doctrine and practice, and offer believers everything necessary for life and godliness.

The Gospel

We believe that the gospel is the good news that God has not left us to die in our sin; that He has sent his Son Jesus to rescue us. Without forfeiting his divine nature, Jesus became a man and lived a life of perfect love for and obedience to God—the life we should have lived. He then took sinners’ place on the cross and absorbed the wrath of God due our sin. Finally, He rose from the grave securing eternal life and righteousness for all who repent of their sin and trust in Him.

The Holy Spirit

We believe that this salvation, attested in all Scripture and secured by Jesus Christ, is applied to his people by the Holy Spirit. He convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment, and by his powerful and mysterious work regenerates spiritually dead sinners, awakening them to repentance and faith, and in him they are baptized into union with the Lord Jesus. The Holy Spirit is Himself the down payment of the promised inheritance, and in this age indwells, guides, instructs, equips, revives, and empowers believers for Christ-like living and service.

The Church

We believe that God’s new covenant people—the church—consists of those who have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit and united to Christ through faith. God dwells in the church through the hearts of its members—believers—and entrusts the church with the ministry of reconciliation. The local church exists as an outpost of heaven where believers gather to worship, fellowship, grow in their knowledge of God, oversee one another’s faith and send one another out into the world to make disciples and show God’s love.

Baptism & the Lord’s Supper

We believe that baptism is the immersion of a believer in water symbolizing the believer’s faith in and identification with a crucified, buried, and risen Savior. The Lord’s Supper is a symbolic act of obedience whereby believers memorialize the death of the Redeemer and anticipate His second coming. Both baptism and the Lord’s Supper are ordained by the Lord Jesus himself. The former is connected with entrance into the new covenant community, the latter with ongoing covenant renewal.

Marriage

We believe marriage is designed by God to be a life-long unconditional covenant union between a man and a woman. Marriage exists for mutual sanctification and serves as a picture of Christ and the church to the watching world.

The Restoration of All Things

We believe in the personal, glorious, and bodily return of our Lord Jesus Christ with his holy angels, when he will exercise his role as final Judge, and his kingdom will be consummated. At that time, those who have not repented of their sin and trusted in Christ for salvation will suffer eternal punishment in hell. Those who have believed on Christ will be perfected—in both their body and soul—and enjoy the bliss and pleasure of being in God’s presence forever as they reign with Him in a New Heavens and New Earth.
