Sunday Morning Service 8/16/26 What happens when we come to God with the right questions but the wrong priorities? The story of the rich young ruler in Mark 10 confronts us with one of the most uncomfortable truths in all of Scripture: that Jesus can look at someone with genuine love and still let them walk away. This man had everything going for him. He was young, wealthy, morally serious, and desperate enough to run to Jesus and kneel at his feet. He wanted eternal life. He asked the right question. And yet something stood between him and the life he was seeking. The passage forces us to examine not just what we believe about Jesus, but what we are actually willing to surrender to him. The central tension here is not about wealth itself, but about allegiance. Jesus identifies himself as God from the very first exchange, and that claim changes everything. If he is truly God, then he does not deserve a portion of our lives. He deserves all of it. The rich young ruler's tragedy is not that he was a bad person. It is that he was almost there, and almost is not enough when we are standing in front of the one who gave everything for us. Chapters Chapter 1: The Danger of Singing What We Do Not Mean 0:00 - 7:15 The gospel of grace is foundational, but it must be balanced with the sobering reality that God allows us to choose whether we follow Him, and He may call us to account for what we sing and profess. Chapter 2: The Rich Young Ruler: Everything Right, One Thing Wrong 7:15 - 32:54 The rich young ruler approaches Jesus with genuine faith, moral integrity, and a hunger for eternal life, yet Jesus exposes that his wealth has become a god he is unwilling to surrender. Chapter 3: Jesus Loves Him and Lets Him Walk Away 32:54 - 46:37 The most sobering moment in the passage is that Jesus, who loves this man with a perfect, divine love, does not stop him from walking away, revealing that God's love does not override our freedom to reject Him. Chapter 4: Surrender All: The True Demand and the Greater Reward 46:37 - 57:45 The gospel does not ask for a partial commitment or a formula to follow, but for a wholehearted turning to Christ, and what He offers in return is worth infinitely more than anything we could surrender. Sunday Morning Service 8/2/26 What does it mean to truly come to God with open hands? In this message drawn from Mark chapter 10, verses 13 through 16, we are confronted with a scene that is far more charged than it first appears. When parents bring their children to Jesus to be blessed, the disciples do not simply wave them off politely. They rebuke them with the same intensity Jesus used to cast out demons and still storms. And Jesus responds with a holy fury that stops everyone in their tracks. The kingdom of God, he declares, belongs to these children. Not the educated. Not the accomplished. Not the ones who have their lives together. The children. The spiritual lesson here cuts deep. We are invited to examine whether we have become gatekeepers in our own right, deciding through our silence or our assumptions who deserves to hear about Jesus and who does not. Every time we withhold the gospel from someone, we are making a judgment that was never ours to make. The message calls us to honest self-reflection about the barriers we build, often without even realizing it, between the people in our lives and the grace that is freely available to them. Chapters Chapter 1: The Innocence We Lose 0:00 - 37:13 Children approach life with open hands, gratitude, and no pretense, but as we grow up we lose that innocence and replace it with pride, social positioning, and a sense of entitlement. Chapter 2: The Disciples as Gatekeepers 37:13 - 56:25 In Mark 10, the disciples rebuke parents who bring their children to Jesus, revealing how we can become gatekeepers who decide who is worthy to come to Christ. Chapter 3: The Kingdom Belongs to Such as These 56:25 - 73:34 Jesus not only welcomes the children but declares that the kingdom of God belongs to them, revealing that childlike trust and open-handed receiving is the very posture required to enter the kingdom. Chapter 4: Receiving Grace Like a Child 73:34 - 87:45 We are called to stop trying to earn our salvation and instead receive the grace of Christ with open hands, trusting that holiness grows out of relationship with Jesus rather than the other way around. "Repentance" 7/12/26 - Sunday Service This message wrestles with one of Christianity's most challenging tensions: the balance between God's unconditional grace and our call to holy living. Diving deep into Mark chapter 9, we encounter Jesus using startlingly intense language about cutting off hands, feet, and plucking out eyes if they cause us to sin. But before we misunderstand this as a works-based salvation, we're anchored in the foundational truth that our salvation is secured entirely through Christ's finished work on the cross—not by our repentance, confession, or good behavior. The brilliance of this teaching lies in helping us hold two truths simultaneously: we are saved by grace alone through faith alone, AND we are called to walk worthy of that salvation. The sermon challenges our American tendency to feel entitled to comfort, entertainment, and self-indulgence, asking the hard question: if we look exactly like the world around us, what attracts anyone to the gospel? Our holiness—our difference—is the salt that gives flavor to a bland world. This isn't about earning salvation; it's about responding to the incredible gift we've already received. When we truly grasp that Christ died for us while we were yet sinners, our natural response should be to cut out anything that diminishes our witness or leads the innocent astray. We're called to be distinct, set apart, visibly different in how we love, serve, forgive, and live. Chapter 3: The Foundation: Salvation by Grace Alone 42:00 - 52:57 Before addressing holy living, we must understand that salvation is secured entirely through Jesus Christ's work on the cross, not through our own efforts or repentance. Chapter 4: The Call to Walk Worthy 52:57 - 64:24 We explore our responsibility as believers to walk worthy of our salvation by cutting out sin and living differently from the world around us. The message doesn't advocate for accepting false gospels or abandoning theological discernment, but rather calls us to recognize that God's kingdom is bigger than our particular tradition. When these core truths are present, we can celebrate kingdom work even when it doesn't fit our preferred methods or denominational labels.
